Im going to post randomly here and let others post so its not a complete AAR. Just thought some of you 82nd Association members would like to know what you missed.

National Director Vote: 193 ballots cast representing over 30,000 members. 550 registrations at the event itself, figure half that for actual card carrying members and you still had a poor turn out. Results are as follows (seat winners in blue)

  • Tijerina                  134 votes
  • Frazer / Schroeder   128 votes
  • Glancy                   122 votes
  • Briseno                  121 votes
  • Wolfe                    118 votes
  • Loveland                117 votes
  • Long                     113 votes
  • Larson                   108 votes
  • Hicks                     85 votes

As you can see it was a VERY tight race, if you knock out the top and bottom and look at the average its like 10 votes between.

Would have been good to see some more voter turn out to get a more representative sample of the association. With over 12,000 veterans and the rest active duty, 193 votes cast is pretty lame.

I rounded up 6 non-voters in five minutes, listened to their excuse as to why they didn't vote, then chewed their ass out.

Turn out was pathetic. Also the some rocket surgeon planned a trip to Hersheys Chocolate World 1 1/2 hours prior to launching the meeting.

Folks seem to forget we also conduct ASSOCIATION BUSINESS during the convention.

Ah well, you can lead a member to the convention, but you can't make him vote!!

Basically looks as if the 82nd Association is turning into the 504 Association ! We are told not to use internet to ask and look for votes, but yet 504 use's a Full Page Ad  to cover their guys of which if I recall correctly four of the 8 were 504 troops.  Also thought that Al and I stood a better chance if those whom were voting for us had only voted for us, but I observed a few ( more so than others ) that had either 1 or both of us selected but also had 6 others elected as well.

And FOR ALL CON :  The ONLY reason me and my HH6 did not go to the final dinner was because the first dinner was not good at all and the wait time was flat crazy! Felt my HH6 deserved better for our last night there, and since I did not get elected, we had the option of eating elswhere. She has sufferd enough through bad dinners because of my past positions, fortunately she did not have to this time. And my only apologies goes to Col. Sam Keaton who was kind enough to save us a seat.

All said and done : Congratulations to Steve Fraizer being elected as President!

Big Steve is a good guy and attends quite a few of the Atlanta Airborne Awards, since we have a good raport being SF and Cops in common I will definetly lobby to get Big Steve to consider the issues that have been identified as important to improving the Association not just maintaining the status quo.

Stand in the door!
