Selling sacriments was an issue for the Catholic church five hundred years ago... not much has changed since then. Greed is still a motivating force which subverts and twists the message of Christ into an economic model.

The path to being a good Christian is not an easy one and very few truly follow it... most of us sort of muddle along to be honest.

"The degenerative and loony should never be denigrated but, rather, thanked. In their absence, the rest of you would be obliged to fill congressional seats... positions naturally unsavory to the sane and honorable."

This is turning into an excellent and lively discussion! I'm taking a short break at work and will comment more later.

The tent making comments earlier reminded that we all are called to be tentmakers on some level or another. I would ask you fellow warriors to pray for this old guy who has not only on the CMF board, but sitting as chair at the moment. Not pastoring and holding a 9-5, but pretty labor intensive. Pray that I will yield to His Spirit and stay out of His way as he leads and guides this ministry.

BTW, a significant event ocurred in Colorado Springs recently and I got to be there. It's written about in the following CMF article.

Later, my friends!

I think it was indulgences that the church used to sell. They were designed to be premeditated forgiveness. Of course we know the concept to be a false one. The problem with the church in them that days was that many second or third sons who could not inherit the family lands or titles and who was not a good knight prospect would become a priest of rank when daddy paid for the position for him.

As far as muddling along in our walk with Christ I think we are only required to try. He was the only one who could walk on water. I float pretty good but haven't made it on top yet.

That's a correctamundo on the indulgences. that was one of Martin Luther's issues. It yhas been referred to as the "Pay now Play Later Plan".

Concerning our walk, Jesus said in Matt 11:30 "My yoke is wasy and my burden is light." which could mean that when the muddling seems to be hard, I'm trying too much in my own strength and not letting His strength work through me. And I do muddle......

To me there is a whole distaste and huge distrust in the mega churches, or the books that are the equivalent of religion in its lite form.  Sending prayer mats, buying blessings, benny hinns hair, it all has the feel of snake oil. I see or read about people who seem to be true believers, but it is these televangelist people who live in the million dollar homes, have their own plane, wear gucci and rolex that make the whole thing seem like a farce. They take advantage of people and will swear they are helping them, but it just seems like a money factory, and as it was said here before, it is taking religion, washing it up and serving it to people in a taste that doesn't really affect them, its on the peoples terms, not gods. How many times must someone like that say, what God really means and then the next thing you know the masses are saying, I can do that it is easy, here is my money.
