Have you guys heard of ETTs?  Seen the latest Army Times (or recent anyway)?  I've been transfered to one.

ETT stands for Embedded Training Team. I'm going to go train/mentor the ANA.

This guy has been doing it, and his blog has a pretty good description of what the mission is.

I'll be going with a lot of BTDTs, guys from the LRS company and other units.  I'm thinking I'm going to be drinking from the fire hose to a certain extent.  I got on the team because of the engineer (architect, and supposedly brainy) skill set (so I'm told).

I'll be going here for the training.

That's about the size of it.

Yes, there is an informative article in the Army Times issue dated 29 January 2007 about these transition teams. Sounds as if it would be a fun time. The article doesn't go into a lot of detail about how officers will be used, but I would imagine engineer skill sets would be useful in some way. (S-4 guy?)

Hey, I'll do whatever they need me to do.

Listen to the BTDT hooahs and don't try to play rank with them.  You will gain a lot of respect from them quick.  Get a hold of the new COIN manual and read it cover to cover.  Also, get a hold of any recent foreign internal defense [FID] manual...as well as the latest SOSO [stability operations/support operations] manual.  The Center for Army Lessons Learned [CALL] also has a lot of current enemy and friendly TTPs that apply to both Astan and Iraq.   There is also a good forward operating base [FOB] manual from CALL based on info coming out of OIF/OEF.

If you go there with BTDT LRS guys with prior experience mentoring/training the ING or ANA your job will be too easy if you are ever the OIC for such training.  Learn from your NCOs especially it they already have been to OIF or OEF.  This is the best advice I can give you.   Godspeed.

Thanks for the info.  I'm going to be soaking it up like a sponge from everyone.  I don't care about rank... it's not that type of mission.  I'm going to listen very carefully to the people who know what's up.
