2News was there when a couple took time out Thursday from serving our country to make a commitment to each other with the words "I do."  Sergeant Matthew Rentz and Private Ashley Cantrell were all smiles as they exchanged vows at the Kettering government center with "hizzoner" doing the honors.

However, the blushing bride will soon be trading her wedding dress for a uniform. "I'm going to boot camp in June," said Ashley. She'll train to be am Army MP.  And Matt will soon be heading back to Afghanistan. "I leave here to go back to my station New Year's Eve," he said.

Amvets Kettering post commander Gary Gose said his members heard about Matt and Ashley and their plans to get married and decided they would help with the wedding. "The gentleman serving the country, getting ready to go overseas ... And his bride going into the reserves. We felt they deserved more than a quick marriage."

The Amvets arranged for the mayor's ceremony and a big reception back at the post, all at no cost to the bride and groom.

"It was amazing. It was unexpected and amazing. I was shocked at the support they gave us without even knowing us," beamed the happy couple.

"Hundreds of thousands of American servicemen and women are deployed across the world in the war on terror. By bringing hope to the oppressed, and delivering justice to the violent, they are making America more secure. "
