C-27J completes early user survey evaluations By Bryant Jordan Staff writer The C-27J Spartan, one of two planes still in the running to become the Army and Air Force’s Joint Cargo Aircraft, has finished early user survey evaluations at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., and Fort Rucker, Ala.
During three weeks of evaluation, according to L-3, the lead company in the Spartan team, the C-27 demonstrated: • the loading of cargo pallets; • roll-on, roll-off loading and unloading of a Humvee with no disassembly required; • conversion of the plane to medevac, cargo, troop and combination configurations; • short take-offs and landings into and out of assault zones and austere airstrips. L-3 is one part of the corporate team behind the C-27J. Other members are Alenia North America of Italy and Boeing Corp. The other contender for the JCA contract is the C-295, which is being offered by EADS CASA North America and Raytheon. The C-295 completed its early user survey evaluation in October.

| And she's got a 25 year service life to boot...only one in her class with that long of a cert., but she's not a prototype aircraft, it's based off the 30 year old C-27A's with quite a few new systems. http://www.c-27j.com/index.php A few of the older C-27A's were down at Ft. Howard, Panama CZ operating out of SOUTHCOM doing counter drug operations in Columbia, Peru, and Central America. With CZ being handed over, they operate out of Patrick AFB in FL now.
