Wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll put it here pending the screaming and yelling. My platoon sergeant and I are deploying to A-stan in the early part of the next calendar year, and we're looking to attend ABN when we get back. Problem is, being NG, our state screws us and won't send us to any schools that aren't required for our jobs, and ABN school as "professional development" doesn't get us anywhere (that's what we get for having a small amount of IN in the state...). My question is does anybody here work at ABN that can help us to get set up to attend when deployment is over? I'm not worried about getting paid, I just am sure that we need to be on orders, and need to find a way to get in the doors, since we probably won't get slots for the school. Any help from anybody out there would be appreciated. Thanks! MTN

And when you figure it out let me know... I've been asking for 4 years. I'm in the GA ARNG and we have one company on Jump Status. I'm not in it. They don't need engineer LT's in the LRS Company.

Hmmm, several of hubby's guys were sent to Airborne school from their CA unit.

| CA units (from what I've seen) are traditionally Airborne units with members on jump status. The NG never has really understood the benefits of training its soldiers in a variety of skills to better be able to function with our active duty counterparts. This is only one part of what I consider a crying shame. Slots at schools go unclaimed all the time, yet NG soldiers are denied for whatever reason. One of the biggest travesties I saw was the misappropriation of slots within the ROTC community. NG Soldiers are denied slots because they won't "need" them in their units, while Active Duty Cadets attend schools after schools that are readily available to new LT's in the training pipeline (IE, sending Cadets seeking Infantry commissions to ABN school... ) Like I said, we're more than happy just to attend, I'll get somebody to put me on orders without pay, just so I'm covered for SGLI, and I'll self transport to Benning, as long as somebody can help us get into the schoolhouse.

You cannot attend BAC unless you have orders from your unit approving a slot. Your unit(and/or your state) will have to pay the Army for your attendance. Check out the FAQ on the 1-507th website for the full explanation and relevant Regs.

| Gotta have them papers with your orders in your hand, especially Hazardous duty orders. They check all of these things very closely. When I was a Black Hat at BAC it was not uncommon to see students droppes the first couple of days of training for ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES!!!!! I have seen students on the telephone to their units begging for all kind of paperwork. When they put you on that yellow brick road to admin hell, its just a dufflebag drag till you get back to the motorpool!!

| Meh... This wasn't what I wanted to hear gentlemen... Well, I guess I'll have to hope that the SGM in G-3 finally leaves while I'm deployed, maybe the next guy will spend money on stuff like this...

Actually there is a way to get a guarenteed Airborne slot, check with your Recruiters but last I heard a couple of Guard enlistment referrals get you the school. It's a little bit of work but if you really want it then you'll make it happen. Also I know that in my Battalion if you are up for re-enlistment you can tell them that you want to go to BAC and that is the only way you will re-enlist...our Bn. Commander has no problem hooking a Soldier up for a re-enlistment. Good Luck and remember ...Think outside the box!
