| Here is another story from an FOG: In 63-64, A Btry 1/320 was tasked to go to Greensboro. It was some king of Armed Forces week (or something like that). We set up our 105's and crew gear, looked sharp and answered any questions the civilians had. There was a lot of free time. I in wandering through Greensboro, I found a number of Rathskellers (sp.), they were beer halls. I go into one and find several of my battery there. I also find that it is loaded with females. One of the guys asks me if I was there to round the battery up to send them back to the armory (that was where we were billeted for our stay). He had a disapointed look on his face. My reply was "Aiming poit identified, number three ready to be laid" (if you know artillery, you know waht that means). That brought a round of applause. I come to find out that in the town of Greensboro, resides the campus of UNCG. That stood for University of Noth Carolina for girls!!!. What were thaty tinking when they sent us here -Bars--girls--Airborne????? The female that I linked up with, was in charged of her dormitory (I think it's called CA???). So, here we are, and I have the keys to the kingdom. For the rest of the time we are there, we demonstrated to the kids in the daytime..and demonstrated to the ladies of UNCG at night. At the end of our time there, an officer asked me my opinion of the armory. I said I really couldn't say. He asked why not. My reply was that except for getting my gear and taking a shower, I was never there. He asked where, then was I? Sir, I was busy!!! Several weeks later, 4 of us go back to visit. A group of about 7 guys are out in front of the dorm. they were from Duke, and said that we were not welcomed there. Out in front of this particular dorm, the stoop had about 5 steps on it. A scuffle breaks out between the 4 of us and these 7 Duke guys. When one of us was thrown over the railing, we would use all 5 points of contact. When we threw one of them over, they didn't know about PLF's. We whittleled them down until they gave up. It was a time to remember.
All the way, sir!!!

Ted, good story. But attention to detail, Airborne. This is the forum for new people to introduce themselves. I suggest the Army forum or Just a Thought forum for your recollections. Hooah?

No sweat, Ted. It becomes second nature after a while, just like those PLFs did in jump school before you ever stepped in an airplane.
