I know that the APFT includes 2 mile run, sit-ups, and push-ups. In airborne school are you tested on pull ups as well? I know that there is a test were you have to do one pull up from a dead hang and hold it for a minimum of ten seconds. Is there also a test for reps. too?

Everyday in jump school you will have to do 6-10 pullups(depending on what week you are in) as you enter the pit to do PT. There is no requirement for holding it. Straight up and straight back down.

Check out some of the other topics here because I know we have discussed the PT requirements before.

JR, my understanding is that the first thing new students are likely to do at the beginning of Ground Week is an Airborne PT test. That would include the pullups. And I can't speak for now, but it used to be that failure to do a minimum number of pullups was grounds for recycling a student.

That must be a newer requirement. We did pull-ups before chow and during PT, but no one took a PT test. You washed out if you fell out of a certain number of runs.

| You remind me of me, FNG! I always ask a million questions when I go into something new, but that's good. It means you like to be prepared. I am, in fact, a 37F, and I wouldn't trade it for the world! So let's see, where to begin on your questions??? I guess I am obligated to tell you not to lie on your paperwork, but I will also tell you that the Army is not likely to know what you don't tell them. At the same time, if they DO for some reason find out, you will get FRIED, possibly kicked out. You're better off looking into getting a waiver....believe me....there are waivers for almost anything. As for the DLAB, no you cannot "study" for it, but do a little research on it online. There is info out there about what to expect, so you won't feel like you are headed into it as blindly. Airborne school, ahhh, yes...everyone wants to know about airborne school. The answer is YES, you are now required to do the flexed-arm-hang test to begin the course. This is how it goes: you will begin at a dead hang. On command, you will raise yourself up until your chin clears the bar, and you must hold it for 10 seconds. You will then be told to lower yourself, and then to drop from the bar. You are not allowed to kick, and if your chin touches or falls below the bar, you will fail the event. You are given 2 chances on any event (except the run) to pass. If you fail the entrance PT test, you will be recycled to the next class (assuming your unit gives to ok to recycle you...remember you are costing them TDY money to be there). You may be recycled once in any given week of the course. If you are recycled a second time in the same week, you will simply be dropped from the course, and it is up to your unit whether or not you may ever return to try again. I can tell you that PSYOP AIT may or may not let you hang around long enough to try again if that happens. I saw a lot of people get reclassed because they couldnt pass airborne school. That said, I still wouldn't say Airborne school is impossible by any means. Work hard at your running. They may say "9 minute miles plus or minus 15 seconds" but they WILL run you a lot faster than that, some companies more than others. My advice to you is to get as fast as you can on your medium distance running...you will be running increasing distances, culminating in a final 5 mile run at the end of tower week. You are permitted to fall out of 1 run without being recycled. Also, they will run you to and from all of the training areas. The second thing I remember about Airborne School was the soreness. You don't realize it at the time, but your body takes a beating falling down over and over. You will be sore, so bring lots of Tylenol and Icy Hot. It was a Godsend for me. OK, on to the actual AIT. If you are initial entry, as opposed to reclass, I'm not gonna lie---life is gonna suck. But that goes for most other AIT's also. It's a lot like basic training, but as you progress, you start to get more privileges such as passes on the weekends where you can go out on the town, etc. I actually thought it wasn't so bad, because Ft. Bragg is not a training post, and so you don't have to deal with all the crap that goes along with being on a TRADOC post. Anyway, I think I've written enough of this novel. I'll check the posts to see if I missed anything, and then I am going to bed. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me or whatnot. I will be glad to help, and I can probably answer most of your questions from firsthand experience. Good luck to you!

| Nomad, I am fairly sure that there are reserve PSYOP units on jump status, but I can't be 100% certain. I know that in my AIT class there were some reclass students who were much older than myself, but I couldn't tell you exactly how old. Oh, and this part is for FNG...Here is the link to the Airborne school website. It can probably answer a lot of the questions you had about the school. https://www.infantry.army.mil/airborne/airborne/
