July 19, 2006Impostor’s lies ‘got out of control’ By John Hoellwarth Staff writer A McAllen, Texas, man claiming to be a highly decorated retired sergeant major is an impostor, Marine officials confirmed today.
For the past 15 years, J.C. Ortiz, 64, has tricked his community into believing his 39-year Marine Corps career included four tours in Vietnam, where he received the Silver and Bronze Stars. He was exposed as a fraud in a July 13 news report by The (McAllen) Monitor. Officials at Manpower and Reserve Affairs at Quantico, Va., verified the report by checking personnel records that showed Ortiz, born Gerald J. Bowman, served three and a half years in the Marine Corps. “In that short time [Ortiz] managed to rack up a summary, special, and general court-martial,” said spokesman 1st Lt. Rob Dolan. “He never made it to Vietnam and was given an undesirable discharge as a result of the general court-martial. He was a private at the time with no awards.” Ortiz told The Monitor that he portrayed his false persona “with good intentions,” but that “it just got out of control.” “Military impostors are cowards” who sully the sacrifices military personnel make every day, Dolan said. “Reality catches up to their lies eventually, and their false world is destroyed.”

agonyea (7/19/2006) July 19, 2006 Ortiz told The Monitor that he portrayed his false persona “with good intentions,” but that “it just got out of control.” Whenever these losers get caught, they always say the same thing "But my intentions were good." as if that somehow mitigates what they did. If it were true, it wouldn't mean much, but the reality is, it's as much a part of their lies as their fake military career was. This asshole's intention's weren't "good." His intentions were to attain fame and glory for himself that he hadn't earned, and to do so at the expense of those who did earn it. He should be kicked in the balls for even saying this.

When I was younger, before and two years into my first tour. I thought that the vet community was way bigger. Then I found out 60% of people who told me they were vets were full of shit. It's a sorry state of mind that leads one to lie about shit. If I don't see them (posers) spouting their BS to anybody else, I usualy just let it lie, and laugh to myself.
