| I appreciate any answers I can get. I was regular army 25F (airborne) from 2002-2004 (23 months on active duty). I was chaptered out with an honorable discharge RE-3 (physical condition, not a disability- failure to meet height and weight standard). I am trying to get back in. I have talked with a recruiter who says all I have to do is get my weight back in check and the waiver is cake. Will (since I have had a break in service less than three years) I be sent straight to a signal unit with no BCT or AIT? I believe that is what is in AR 601-210, but I don't know if I am interpreting that correctly. Also can I reclass to a more critical MOS, like let's say infantry or artillery ( I would actually prefer OSUT). Lastly, to get back on jump status, do I have to do BAC all over again or just attend BAR? I appreciate any replies.

We have some recruiters and former recruiters around here that can give you the straight answers, but I will try on a couple of points. I don't think you will have a problem getting a different MOS, although you will have to go through AIT for that new job. However, as prior service I don't believe you will have a station or unit of choice option. You will be assigned based on the needs of the Army. With the 82nd adding a fourth brigade next year there is a good chance you will end up back at Bragg. I do know that if you have already been through BAC you do not have to go through again. Once you have earned your wings you have them unless you voluntarily terminate or are a jump refusal.

With a RE-3 code I believe you have to wait at least 2yrs before you can get back in. Id ask your Recruiter about that. But you may be able to get a waiver for that. If you do get back in as your prior MOS no you will not have to attend Basic or AIT. However if you do go into another MOS you will have to attend AIT for that MOS. You may be able to choose another MOS but that all depends on the needs of the Army. Since you are prior service you have less options than when you first came in. Depending on how much over weight you are Id look into the Reserves so you dont loose any time. I know if you are out for a certain amount of time you have to attend Basic and AIT again. I think its 2 or 3yrs but ask the Recruiter about that. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Go talk to a recruiter, in the year I've been out of recruiting, all the rules on wait times, waivers, and RE Codes have changed. They'll have all the updated information, and you can also see how much weight you'll need to lose to get qualified again.

| One word of caution..... There is a rule on the books , but whether or not they will follow it, waiver it..is up to the Master Recruiter at MEPS... If you are a RE-3 discharge and re-enlisting.... Your new MSO, Military Service Obligation, will be (8 years) - time already spent in the ARMY.... SO for example if your original ARMY contract was a 4x4 , meaning 4 years ACTIVE and 4 years Inactive reserve....and you only served 2 years then discharged...Then this time around your contract will be for 6 years ACTIVE... No one will tell you this UNTIL the contract is printed and ready for you to READ and sign......
