This is the HH6 and I just got off the phone with John and he asked that I post an update.
Things in Dallas are relatively calm and they just got off of 12 hour shifts to 8 hour shifts. There are 8,500 people in the county collisium where he is and another 8,500 people across the street at the Reunion Center. They are being put up in a hotel so at least they are not sleeping the airport like the poor guys in New Orleans.
We have only heard rumors that they will be deployed anywhere from the end of September to December. And apparently, "they" are making things harder than it has to be. But then, what else is new? We are supposed to go on our honeymoon in mid-October (waiting on that since the wedding in April) and if he can't get leave, I will be knocking on the Texas Governor's front door...
If there is any news, I will update. Until then, I get to sleep in the middle of the bed!
Take care, HH6

Thanks for the update! Hope our other members who have deployed in response to this disaster are able to check in every once in a while and let us know how they are doing and maybe what specific material support they need from us.

Thanks for the update. You two will get that honeymoon.....eventually. I love John's sig line. Tell him I hope he keeps it as long as he doesn't mind you punching him up-side his head on occassion! Take care and if you need anything, give a shout.

Thanks for the update! The honeymoon will happen, the wait will just make it even more special.

Tell John to keep the faith (you too)!! I know it has to be rough down there. We just got our first influx of "refugees" from down there today up in Mass. Freaking unreal speaking of U.S. Citizens as refugees....
By the way, I served with your husband many moons ago. He is a good man.

Dallas relief update. John and his unit are still on 8 hour shifts and hopefully they will be combining the Reunion Center and the convention center refugees all into the Reunion Center soon. Then trying to get people apartments and settled into normal life again. So it goes. No word on when they anticipate coming home. But I will post an update as soon as I know.
Kate - I have mentioned John's sig line to him and all I am met with is a grin. But I do love yours and I hope you don't mind that I have started using it as mine. I give you all the credit. Actually, it was quite stressful the other day at work and when I had to deal with one more idiot I just quitely mummbled it to myself...

NET Call, NET Call,
This is TEX Actual, reporting in from HOME!
We got cut loose on Saturday and I have been horizontal & unconcious since arriving, catching up on much needed sleep.
I went down about day 4 with the Norwalk Virus which was making the rounds, put me on my ass for 2 days till I was 100% and ready for duty again. We were put up in local hotels, myself & others from my brigade getting 750$ per night suites at the Hyatt-Regency. The kitchen & cafeteria at the convention center where we were being fed was manned by the top 5-star chefs from Dallas' best restaraunts and they took EXCELENT care of us, but I think I have eaten chicken in every way it can be prepared, and I dont think I will be wanting to eat chicken for quite a while.
I was our shift NCOIC for the last week of the OP, things went well despite TXSG HQ runing things as a Task Force type Op with Air Guard types mixed in with us "Green Side " types and skipping the individual unit chains of command. All my troops put their ego's aside and put mission first, & I wish I had the means to coin each & every one of them. I am very proud of them, and of all we have a | | | |
