| All, I'm looking to see if anyone has taken any CLEP/DANTES courses, earned their degree and then gone to OCS. Also, does OCS accept the courses taken as accredited? Finally, if you do earn a degree while in the guard and then go to OCS...can you be an officer on AD or must you continue with the guard? apprecicate any info, R

| This is OLD information (I went to OCS in 1971-72*) but I believe the answer to be this: OCS does not accept or reject CLEP. It is a particular college or university that accepts the CLEP scores and awards college credit to the student, and each college or university has its own criteria. Some require higher passing percentiles than others, (generally in the 50 - 75 %ile range). Most also limit the amount of credit that may be awarded "by examination only," typically to a maximum of 24 or so hours, about one year. So you need to check with a college or university, have them do an evaluation, and award you the credit hours. *I was the last officer to graduate from OCS with a high school diploma and not an hour of college credit (January 1972, at age 19), and my first active duty career was shortened because of it. While I was there the rules were changed to require at least two years of college to apply, I don't know if there is still the two year minimum, but I know that without a full degree most soldiers are non-competitive in the selection process.
