MM, I don't know what your time line is for getting this to National, but if it is close to our meeting I say go ahead and get it to me or to our Chapter Secretary. My thought is that my Chapter is behind this fully and this will show the officers in attendance the support for your amendment. I know that the National President and Manny will are both scheduled to be there. Also, we usually have a handful of directors there. I can think of two or three who are likely to attend.

Both subjects , Vote changes and Convetion SOP changes will most likely be discussed at the Directors meeting during all AA week.  This is just a guess.

I just sent in my vote in the Korean War Veterans Association election, and thought that a similar procedure may work for us in the 82nd Abn. Division Association.

All candidates for national office have their photos and curriculum vitae published in the KWVA official publication three months before the deadline for receiving ballots.  That same issue has the official ballot stapled in the centerfold.  The official ballot has a box for pasting the peal-off label from the cover.  The label bears the name, address, membership number and bar code.  Only the mailed in official ballots are counted.  There is no voting at the Convention.

This would be another way to allow those members who can not attend the Convention to cast their vote.  Just food for thought.

Golden, your on the right track. I'm tracking with you. Look for a letter to your chapter from me with the suggested by-law proposal. Every chapter chairman will be receiving one and I will be asking your chapter chairman to read the letter at your meeting, discuss it amongst yourselves and if you guys like the idea, send a letter to Larry Law telling him your chapter supports the idea. Also if you got a delegate coming to the convention, have them press the issue at the convention.

As was mentioned in the other topic Al's submission was shot down again this year. Gentlemen, the fact is that the Committee charged with reviewing changes to the Bylaws and making recommendations are opposed to this and will recommend not approving it for the foreseeable future. The current crop of National Directors(with one notable exception, right Bytor) are not going to overrule the Committee.

If you wish to see this change enacted it will require two things. One, you have to get involved with a Chapter and actively push this. If this can be sold to enough Chapters and their wishes expressed strongly to the Board it might make some more Directors sit up and take notice.

Mostly what needs to happen is that Association members need to show up at the Convention and vote for Directors who are behind this. That means not only coming to the Convention but making sure you get out of bed for the early afternoon meeting in order to vote.

I made read the reason in my mind wrong but the way I percive this is that they are black mailing you into attending the convention if you want to vote.  That is weak.

Joel, that is one of the excuses that was given when the recommendation was made not to accept it. However, with 28,000 members in the Association and less than 1,000 attending the Convention and just a little over 200 voting, that simply doesn't hold water. Outside of some 1SGs and SGMs I don't think there were any active duty troopers present at the General Membership meeting this year. And there were veterans who checked out of the hotel Saturday morning and left before the meeting. Doesn't seem to be working, does it?

The stupid part is that the association originally ran by mail in ballot, then changed when attendance was so good at National Convention, now its been tradition to do so but the stats just dont back up the claims that Mr. Larry Law put forth about people coming TO vote. Its just not the case. Most of the people who didnt show up to vote have the same answer when I asked "Why bother, Fayetteville's old boys club runs things"

Sad when our troopers are so beaten down that they'll just flat out skip the vote completely. We need to get more people back in those seats, back to the convention and show them that in order to get anything to change they have to help.
