The winning combination for infantry support: http://www.army-technology.com/projects/acv-s/index.html http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/2116/lighttanks.htm The man that could make it happen (even though we are currenlty in an election year so he may not be there in 2005): http://www.army.mil/leaders/csa/bio.htm Maybe another reason to keep GWB in the White House another 4. Our Army desperately needs expeditionary (RDF) light armor units and SBCTs are not it. Operations in urban terrain for our army will only increase over the next 10 years. We will also see an increase in non-linear urban combat zones, both low and high intensity. Our infantry hooahs will need this kind of transport, protection, and firepower close to them. Just ask the IDF, who have been fighting tangos in an urban setting for decades now, how they have done it. Recently the IDF said no to the Stryker. Our experiences in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam should have taught us this. And now we have the Somalia and Iraq experiences as well. RLTW!

Schoomaker will be CSA regardless of who wins in November. Just like Shinseki stayed as CSA when GWB was elected. The military service chiefs do not change because a new administration comes into office. The civilian leadership, the SecDef and service secretaries, would change.

Roger, but how long is his time on the CSA chair for? I know how the secretaries work I just don't understand how the CSA works (?). I also remember that after 9/11 Rumsfeld went looking for a CSA with a certain type of resume for the war on terror and that is how we got GEN Schoomaker from retirement. Soon after he was picked Shinseki left for Fort Livingroom to cash his General Dynamics checks.

The service chiefs are in for four years. The Chairman is a two year term with the option of being appointed for a second term.

Thanks for the info Barry. Good links John. When I look at the Stryker/MGS all wheel concept vs. the M113/M8 AGS all track concept it is a no brainer to me. The M8 AGS and M113 are air droppable but the Stryker variants are not. Hell the Stryker MGS doesn't even work. Unfortunately the Army is under contract with General Dynamics for a shitload of Stryker whales. I've also heard that Schoomaker was sold on the M113/M8 AGS idea only to have his arm twisted by some influencial Stryker camp folks. You know anything about this John? It would be dissapointing if a CSA with Schoomaker's background could not see the potential in Air Mech Strike.
