Gentlemen, OK, I've been away for awhile and now i'm back with a new round of ????s. I was informed that I will go to BCT then come back and be a cadet while I go to school.(2years left) The part i'm confused about is this: If I do BCT does that eliminate going to cadet "adventure" camp? Also, is this the projected order of events or is it different: BCT, be a cadet, adventure camp, graduate, get commission, OBC?? I'm open to hear anything from you BTDTs or just some working idea that is better than what I got now. Respectfully, Randy

First what are you calling adventure camp ? Before you start your MS 3 year you must have completeled one of the following: MS 1 and 2 years, Camp at Ft Knox, or be prior service. Between your MS 3 and MS 4 year you will go to Ft Lewis for Advanced Camp. You must complete this camp to get a commisison. BCT Junior Year MS 3 Advanced Camp (Summer between junior and senior years) Then any other school you may want to try for and/or CTLT. Senior year MS 4. Graduate, Commision, OBC, any schools Army sends/volunteer for. Do not know how being SMP means for deployability though. Some friends who were in Guard/Reserve units are deployed to parts unknown.

Griz Thanks for the info. I've been using the term "adventure" camp cos that's what I heard the camp prior to Advanced was called(at the detachment). I have completed 2 years of AFROTC and i checked with the people here at the Army Det and was informed that I could just transfer over. However, I got foggy on the part about where I would have to enlist then come back and be a cadet at the same time. About being deployable, I checked with some recruiters. First, since I would not have recieved any formal training I would just "shadow" an officer around during the drills. A part of me wants to say that's a bit odd because if the army is investing in me i'm sure I should be doing something when at drills. Any of that sound like something you've seen/heard?? I Appreciate the help, R

The cadets that deployed were fully in the units. They had completed all training and were a part of the unit before they joined ROTC. A 1SGT with a tanker battalion out here (in Iraq now) tried to explain to us how the SMP works. Shadow the officer and do part-time training. Wonder how it would have worked if I had joined that unit.
