I think they guy is AF.

It has a retractable stock that looks the same is what we have on our "newer" M4's, but the upper receiver looks like a M16A4.....

I wish our equipment was this new. Its time my company raided the arms room at Pope AFB...

That is just an M16A2 with carbine retractable stock and a RIS handguard installed.  Since it does not have a removeable carry handle with M1913 Picatinny rail, it is not an M16A4 upper.

It looks new because it's probably never been used.  That is an Airman afterall.

If you look closely above the dust cover there is a a long thin peice of metal that is the clip that clamps down on the receiver to hold the carrying handle on when the screws on the other side are tightened. At least that is what it looks like... And I think A2's dont have that, only A4's

Look again Cherry, I think you are mistaken, but then again my eyes could be bad:

In particular notice the features just below the rear sight elevation knob on the pic above.  Do you see these on the pic of the Airman?   NO.

My eyes may be worse than I thought but it looks to me like the dust cover is open. You are seeing an unused bolt on a new rifle with the ejection port open and the brass deflector behind it.

Yep, you are right. The long clamp is on the side with the screws.... Sigh.... Im getting old.... Still looks like something above the bolt carrier, prolly a shadow or who knows what....

I think that is a Soldier, not an Airman.  Look at the US Flag patch location, and what appears to be a patch on the upper left shoulder.  AF does have some cool weapons.  All the local SF (Security Forces) are transitioning to the M4, since that is who I work with for now.  They've also got very nice everything compared to what I am used to as an old gunbunny!
