Whats the best way for me to check the background of a person?

This is a dirtbag looking guy,that is living with my X who has physical custady of my 10 year old Daughter. I just want to know somthing about this guy so I can protect my Girl! I only have a first and last name. This guy has always lived in the same state of VT.

My first suggestion would be if you have a buddy that is an LEO, give him the guys name and tag number and they could find out allot.  If not there is always pay services.  I used this one tracking down guys I was stationed with.  Helped me find 5 or 6 of them.  I didn't use any of the background check services on it just the locator.  But there are allot of these type services available on the web.  It is just kind of a crapshoot I guess as to which one is the best.  I paid $20 for 24 hours unlimited searches.  I think its like $40 or $50 for a one time full blown back ground check.
